Item Borrowing Periods

The Doddridge County Public Library limits the amount of time that patrons can borrow items from the library so that other patrons can have access to the items. Patrons are allowed to keep books for 3 weeks after checkout and movies for 5 days after checkout.

Renewing Items

Patrons who need more time with their borrowed items may wish to renew their borrowing period. Carrying out a renewal on an items extends its borrowing period so that the item is due as if it was checked out the day it was renewed. For example, a patron renewing a book will have the new due date set 3 weeks from the date it was renewed, and patrons renewing a movie will have the due date set 5 days from the date of renewal. Items that are on hold for someone, meaning that another patron is waiting for the item to be returned, cannot be renewed.

There are two ways to renew an item. The first is to come to the library in person and ask a librarian at the circulation desk to renew the item. You do not have to have the item with you to renew it, as the process does not include scanning the book. The second way to renew the item is to call in to the library and ask the librarian to renew the item for you. The librarian will only need your first and last name.
